FROM THE WALWORTH COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE

Recently, a GWLPOA member reached out with a question regarding how the sheriff’s department would contact absent property owners in case of an emergency at their lake home. She contacted the Walworth County Sheriff’s department and they responded! Please see details below from Captain Todd Neumann, from the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department, regarding recommendations. We have provided the sheriff’s department with two copies of our Directory and will in the future always make sure they have updated booklets.

Information provided below is from Captain Todd Neumann,

Walworth County Sheriff’s Department on how to supply your contact information to the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department:

Any property owner can contact myself or Bonnie Douglas our Comm Center Operations Manager via email.

tneumann@co.walworth.wi.us or bdouglas@co.walworth.wi.us  with the following information:

  • Physical address of the property

  • Name and relationship of each key-holder to the property (example Larry Thomas: Property Owner, or Dylan Thomas, Owners Son) and one or more phone numbers where they can be reached in an emergency. We would also like to know the order in which they need to be contacted.

  • Homeowners can have as many or as few key-holders as they like, and multiple phone numbers for each.

We take the information and associate it with the property address in our computer aided dispatch system. This way if there is an alarm, burglary, fire or other problem and we respond, we know who to contact.

FROM THE WHITEWATER FIRE & EMS DEPARTMENT

Whitewater Fire & EMS is a combination department consisting of 15 full-time and 15 paid on-call employees. 12 of the 15 full-time employees work a rotational 24-hour shift, with 4 per shift. These firefighters handle the majority of EMS calls and fire alarm responses. All the full-time personnel are dual certified in that they are Firefighters and EMS providers! When they started full-time staff their EMS level of care also went up to the Paramedic level.

Three ambulances and 14 fire apparatus (engines, ladder trucks, water tenders, command vehicles, utility vehicles, etc.) respond for service within the City of Whitewater and five surrounding townships, totaling 100 square miles. Two ambulances are staffed full-time by 4 employees who live onsite when working. The third ambulance is in reserve and staffed by paid-on-call employees as needed.

Ambulance Information

When an ambulance arrives on scene, they assess the situation, provide aid and make the decision where to take you. Patient transport destinations are determined based on the closest appropriate facility. Certain emergencies, such as cardiac events (STEMIs) or specific trauma cases, are transported to specialized centers like Mercy Hospital in Janesville, even if that means going a bit farther geographically. Most of the time the ambulance will go to Fort Memorial Hospital in Fort Atkinson. This is the preferred destination because it is closest to the city of Whitewater where the ambulances are located. The goal is always to provide patients with the most appropriate and timely care while also ensuring the ambulances can return to the station to reload supplies and then return to service quickly to continue serving the community. If you look at the map, you will see that the lake is in the far southeast corner of their covered territory.

Insurance information

In the event you need to take someone to a hospital or urgent care - be sure you are familiar with your health insurance policy and know which area hospitals are in your network in advance of an emergency.
